Take-away or delivery
When a restaurant offers a take-away or delivery service, plastic packaging consumption increases, mainly because it's what is used to pack food to go.
However, there are eco-friendly alternatives that businesses can adopt which are far less harmful to our environment. There are eco-friendly take-away products that hospitality and catering businesses can offer their customers, greatly benefiting the environment.
By offering this type of packaging, you're openly stating that your business cares about the planet's health and that its managers take corporate social responsibility towards the environment and future generations.
Types of take-away food packaging
All our eco-friendly packaging is compostable, organic and sustainably produced to respect the environment. This way we achieve a full 360-degree ecological cycle.
Depending on the product we want to pack, we'll need one type of container or another. For example, if we need packaging for very cold or very hot temperatures, we recommend choosing cellulose-based options.
For street food, the best option is kraft paper or cardboard packaging.
Cellulose/wood
Cellulose containers are 100% compostable and nature-friendly, usually lined with PLA (a corn-based polymer).
Perfect for...
- Soups
- Ice cream
- Microwaving hot liquids
Polylactic acid (PLA)
"Eco-friendly" plastic food containers are made from PLA, a plant-based polymer derived from corn. This material makes the containers 100% biodegradable and compostable.
Ideal for...
- Fresh fruit
- Salad
- Any food that needs to be kept in the fridge or freezer
Bamboo containers
Many different products are made from this material, such as...
- Straws
- Plates
- Knives
- Forks
- Take-away containers
As well as protecting the environment, these materials give your venue personality and add a personal touch to your meals. There is even designer tableware that gives your venue an Asian, rustic or modern feel, even in colours using eco-friendly inks.
They also have countless advantages, such as:
- Grease-resistant
- Biodegradable
- Made from renewable materials
- Sturdy material
- Cut-resistant
Palm leaf containers
Palm leaves are mainly used for single-use or disposable tableware. Like bamboo, they are biodegradable and made without chemical additives or dyes.
This tableware is sturdy, withstands extreme temperatures and, being 100% natural, can go in the organic waste bin.
Eco-friendly sugarcane containers
These containers are made from 100% natural cellulose pulp from sugarcane fibres, withstand -10°C to +120°C and are microwave-safe up to 120°C.
Sugarcane pulp obtained from harvest residues, previously a useless by-product, is now transformed into a 100% compostable material, ideal for making items such as disposable plates and spoons that are perfect for catering.
Kraft paper boxes and bags
Compostable kraft cardboard is also a perfect material for take-away tableware and packaging, and wood is perfect for cutlery and other utensils.
Kraft paper has a very rustic, handcrafted look; formats include boxes with handles, window boxes, sleeves and bags, among others.
Fortunately, there is growing awareness of the need to eliminate plastic bags , and many companies and shops offer eco-friendly and/or reusable alternatives so we can carry our shopping without harming the planet.
