Perseo by BTV has carried out internal tests* of certain cleaning products on electronic locks and access cards to determine their effect on the product's appearance.
It's important to note that no guarantees are given regarding the effectiveness of any cleaning product or method against viruses, including COVID-19.
Instructions for cleaning handles and cards correctly
Lock hardware
Isopropyl alcohol (70%) can be used to clean locks, specifically handles, faceplates, strike plates, battery covers and latches, without affecting their appearance (other cleaning products may cause damage).
Other cleaning products may damage the lock's appearance.
Recommended method
- Apply isopropyl alcohol (70%) to a soft, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth.
- Clean the lock.
- Leave to air dry.
Isopropyl alcohol (70%) can also be used to clean the RFID readers of Perseo by BTV proximity locks without affecting the product's appearance.
Please note the exception below.
EXCEPTION
- For ADVANCE Trillium RFID locks and wall readers, avoid applying isopropyl alcohol or any other cleaning product to the reader frame, as this may cause cosmetic damage.
- The card readers of Perseo by BTV magnetic stripe locks can be cleaned every few months with special cleaning cards.
CARDS
RFID cards can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (70%) without affecting the product's appearance, by wiping or soaking for about 30 seconds.
We do not recommend cleaning magnetic stripe cards with isopropyl alcohol or other cleaning products, as the magnetic stripe may be damaged.
Test standards
* Test standard used for all tests (except access cards): MIL-STD-810G Method 504.2, Procedure 1(b), without chamber.
The tests used for the cards exceeded MIL-STD-810G Method 504.2, Procedure 1(c), without chamber.
The lock tests simulate intermittent exposure and the card tests simulate prolonged exposure to isopropyl alcohol (70%).
The test results provide no information on the long-term effects of cleaning with isopropyl alcohol (70%).
