Marriott medicalises its hotels to fight COVID-19
Marriott is one of the largest hotel chains in the world. Due to the coronavirus crisis that hit our country so hard, Marriott, eager to help, decided to medicalise some of the rooms in its hotels as a measure to fight the coronavirus.
60 medicalised rooms at the Hotel Marriott Auditorium
Specifically, the Hotel Marriott Auditorium in Madrid has fitted out 60 rooms with medical equipment out of a total of 869, making it the second medicalised hotel launched by the Community of Madrid's Health Department.
This hotel will take in patients from the Torrejón Hospital, the Príncipe de Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henares and the Henares Hospital in Coslada. The aim is to care for people who have symptoms and require monitoring but do not need hospital admission.
Doctors and healthcare staff awaiting the MIR exam
The medical teams caring for these patients come from a pool of 4,400 medical graduates awaiting the MIR residency exam, as well as available nursing staff and technicians to complete the teams. All of them will be supervised by healthcare professionals from the Madrid Health Service.
Onity installed DirectKey at the Madrid Marriott Auditorium
About a year ago, Marriott signed a commercial agreement with Onity as part of its strategic programme, rolling out the Mobile Key system across all Marriott brands and Onity's 2 lock ranges, Trillium and ADVANCE Trillium.
Onity DirectKey
It is a Bluetooth® system operated with the user's mobile phone that makes it easy to open hotel room and common-area doors without touching surfaces contaminated with COVID-19 and improves the safety of the healthcare staff and patients there.
What's interesting about this option is that it is compatible with previous Onity electronic lock models (saving installation time and costs while maximising the equipment's service life), and of course fully compatible with new lock versions.

Hospitality investment to meet reopening requirements
Although hospitality is going through very difficult times, in some cases it will have to invest in order to comply with the de-escalation measures and meet the requirements imposed by the Spanish Government to reopen businesses.
Without doubt, mobile solutions like this combined with electronic locks will become essential for preventing future infections and increasing user safety and hygiene.
